2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup results
The sixteen games of the second round of the ninety-ninth edition of my favorite soccer tournament were all played last night. I was especially interested in two of those games: one for a team that was playing and the other for the team the winner will face when Major League Soccer sides enter the tournament in the third round next week. The results didn’t go my way in either game.
First, the Dayton Dutch Lions FC eliminated the Chicago Fire PDL team in heart-breaking last-possible-moment fashion just moments after it looked like the Fire had succeeded in forcing overtime.
Then came word that the PDL Michigan Bucks had upset USL pros the Pittsburgh Riverhounds—also at the last minute. Had Pittsburgh won, the Chicago Fire first team would have hosted them at Toyota Park next Tuesday, May 29th. As it is, though, the Fire must travel to Pontiac, Michigan On Tuesday instead. Which makes it much less likely I’ll be able to be there, though will be looking into taking the day off. Section 8 has a $50 bus/ticket deal, but they need 32 signups by Friday to make it happen.
